Google asks ABC, NBC and CBS to unblock Google TV

Filed under:

Google has entered into negotiations with three major TV networks -- ABC, NBC and CBS -- to allow Google TV users to access streaming TV episodes on the network websites. The three networks currently block their full-length episodes from Google TV, and a fourth network, Fox, is reportedly considering blocking Google TV as well. Meanwhile, cable channels, including HBO and Turner Broadcasting, have embraced Google TV, offering access to hundred of hours of shows.

Industry analysts say the sticking point for ABC, NBC and CBS is the fear that Google will take over TV advertising the same way it rules Web advertising. Reports haven't said what Google is offering the networks to get them to reconsider, but it's possible Google TV's selection of episodes from the big three networks could be smaller than what's on the websites right now.
